In order to handle radioisotopes(RI) properly, the use of which is an indispensable aid for the analysis of higher functions of the brain and nervous system, we conduct the employment, storage, and disposal thereof on the basis of established regulations, and maintain and administer facilities specifically for this purpose. The floor-space of the experimental laboratories is 377 m2, and an access is controlled through the use of non-contact security cards. The facility includes P2 and P3 experiment rooms. Among the principal equipment currently in use are graphical-image analysis units, a liquid scintillation counter and gamma counters.
In recent years, among the permitted nuclides, the species used most have been 32P, 33P, and 35S. The use of RI by researchers holding concurrent posts as well as other members from outside the institute has been increasing.
