1968 April A committee is formed to investigate the value of establishing the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Research on Mental and Physical Disabilities (Provisional Name).
1971 December A committee is formed to prepare for establishment of the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Research on Mental and Physical Disabilities (Provisional Name).
1971 June The above comittee submits a report entitled, "Organization and Administrative System for Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Research on Mental and Physical Disabilities" (Provisional Name).
1971 November A Preparatory Office is formed, for establishing the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Research on Mental and Physical Disabilities (Provisional Name).
1972 April The Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Neuroscience (TMIN) is opened with seven departments.
1972 July Dr. Teizo Ogawa is appointed Director.
1973 April Seven remaining departments are opened (all 14 departments opened).
1976 July Dr. Masayasu Sato is appointed Director.
1981 November The Institute is reorganized as a corporate foundation, ceasing to be administered directly by the metropolitan government.
1981 November Vice-Governor of Tokyo Shinichi Nomura is appointed President.
1983 June An agreement is formed on academic exchange with the UCLA (University of California, Los Angels ) Brain Reseach Institute.
1983 July Vice-Governor of Tokyo Tetsuo Kando is appointed President.
1986 February A symposium is co-sponsored with UCLA Brain Research Institute.
1986 April Dr. Hiroshi Shimazu is appointed Director.
1987 June Vice-Governor of Tokyo Tsutomu Manita is appointed President.
1988 February The TMIN International Symposium is held (renamed as successor to the symposium co-sponsored with UCLA).
1990 August The Institute is reorganized (structured into four research divisions and 14 departments).
1991 August Chief of the Bureau of Public Health Satoshi Nakajima is appointed President.
1992 November The 20th anniversary of TMIN is celebrated. Festschrift is published.
1993 April Dr. Toshinori Hongo is appointed Director.
1993 July Chief of the Bureau of Public Health Tadamochi Watanabe is appointed President.
1995 June Chief of the Bureau of Public Health Yoichi Harayama is appointed President.
1997 December Dr. Noboru Mizuno is appointed Director.
1999 April The TMIN was reconstituted as an institute in Tokyo Metropolitan Organization for Medical Research.
1999 june Chief of the Bureau of Public Health Koichi Imamura is appointed President.
2000 April The Institute is reorganized
(structured into four research divisions and 23 departments).
2002 August Dr.Tadashi Ogino is appointed President.
2002 October The 30th anniversary of TMIN is celebrated. Festschrift is published.
